16 & Pregnant’s Whitney Purvis’ Baby Daddy Hopes Involuntary Manslaughter Arrest ‘Will Be Her Wake-Up Call’

Whitney Purvis‘ ex is holding out hope her arrest will set her back on a better path.

The 16 & Pregnant alum was taken into custody for involuntary manslaughter after allegedly supplying a man named John Mark Harris with a drug called Tranq, a combo of fentanyl and xylazine, leading to a fatal overdose. She has since been placed on suicide watch as she detoxes while withdrawing from drugs.

Reacting to the shocking legal situation on Tuesday, Whitney’s baby daddy, Weston Gosa Sr. — with whom she shares her late son Weston Jr. and son River — said he’s hoping this “will be the wake-up call Whitney needs to get the help and recovery she needs.” He went on to express his condolences to the victim’s family, saying:

“[My family and I are] deeply sad to hear the news, and our prayers are with the victim’s family. We’re praying justice will be done for the sake of the victim’s family.”

Weston and Whitney have had a tumultuous relationship, especially after the death of their 16-year-old last month. When the MTV personality missed her son’s funeral, she blasted her ex and his new wife for supposedly banning her from the ceremony — though they argued she was simply late. Whitney also accused them of neglect, arguing the teenager’s death was preventable (it was due to natural causes amid his various health challenges).

With all this in mind, Weston also hopes this arrest will show any doubters that Whitney’s allegations against him and his family were just lies and manipulation tactics used to make him look bad. As for claims that the teenager wasn’t cared for well, the father insisted:

“We want to make it very clear we have documented medical records to show that our son was seeing his doctors and getting his medication daily. His most recent appointment at CHOA was April 4th. The accusations she has made are disgusting and sad.”

An investigation is still ongoing into the drug incident, and Whitney has yet to speak out on the arrest. For her remaining son’s sake, we hope this is a turning point!
