Russian forces attempt to gain foothold in Ukraine’s Sumy region

Russia has launched a cross-border offensive in Ukraine’s Sumy region, Ukraine’s border guard said on Monday, and in recent days has stopped up its pressure on Ukrainian troops holding parts of its Kursk region. Russia’s attempt to create a new active fighting zone comes as Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky heads to Saudi Arabia ahead of peace talks with US officials.
