Wax fabric is widely seen across West Africa today, but its origins trace back much further. Initially inspired by Indonesian batik and industrialized by Europeans, it was later reclaimed and popularized by various African nations, becoming a symbol of identity and even protest. However, its history remains complex, with differing opinions still surrounding it today. The Musée de l’Homme in Paris is currently showcasing an exhibition dedicated to this unique fabric.
