Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Monday said Caracas would exercise its “legitimate right to defend itself” from US “aggression”, lashing out at US Secretary of State Marco Rubio over his tough rhetoric on drug cartels and warning that communications with Washington had “broken down”. Tensions have surged in recent weeks after US President Donald Trump dispatched warships in the Caribbean to pressure Maduro.
