French far-right leader Marine Le Pen on Monday slammed a “political decision” after being convicted for embezzlement and banned from standing in an election for five years with immediate effect. FRANCE 24’s Mark Owen speaks to Ariane Bogain, a lecturer in French at the University of Northumbria. She says that the far-right’s harsh rhetoric against the judiciary is a political strategy to weaponize a judicial decision and make political gains.
