France is set to officially recognise the State of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly on Monday, September 22, 2025, joining the UK, Canada, Australia, and Portugal in this move. President Emmanuel Macron has defended the decision, stating that recognising Palestine is essential for isolating Hamas and promoting a two-state solution. FRANCE 24’s correspondent Jessica Le Masurier sees this as a ‘symbolic step towards peace rather than war’, as Israel continues its offensive in the Gaza Strip.
