A Paris court sentenced former French president Nicolas Sarkozy to five years in prison for criminal conspiracy over allegations that Libya’s late leader Muammar Gaddafi funded his 2007 presidential campaign. He will be taken into custody at a later date, and the order remains in force even if he appeals, as FRANCE 24’s Claire Paccalin explains from the court.
