Silent Hill f marks a big change to the formula by diverting away from the titular town and finally exploring Japan. But, there are some major changes to the time period the game is set in that have an effect on the overall themes of the game and the gameplay.
Here is a full breakdown of the game’s setting and time period.
Silent Hill f takes place in 1960s Japan, specifically within the village of Ebisugaoka. Shimizu Hinako has awoken to find that her town has become enveloped in a fog, turning it into a horrifying nightmare.
This time period allows the game to focus heavily on women’s repression in 1960s Japan and Hinako’s repression specifically. The game’s narrative and gameplay allow Silent Hill f to focus on combating this oppression and overcoming it as Hinako makes her way through the village. The 1960s were a turning point for women’s rights in Japan, and the game reflects that in its setting and the time period it takes place in.
Silent Hill f has received excellent reviews and means the series and Konami are back in the swing of things after the release of Silent Hill 2, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and now Silent Hill f.
Silent Hill f is available now on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
