Taylor Swift will reportedly interpolate a George Michael classic on her new album ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ – find out more below.
The pop star is gearing up to release her 12th studio record, ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ this Friday (October 3), following on from last year’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’. The album has already broken her own Spotify record with pre-saves of over five million already.
Shortly after announcing the album in August, she shared the record’s full tracklist, which includes a track titled ‘Father Figure’. Now, Billboard reports that the track will see Swift pay tribute to George Michael by interpolating his 1987 classic of the same name.
Additionally, Michael’s ex-partner of 13 years Kenny Goss has told TMZ that while the late ‘Faith’ singer never got the chance to meet Taylor, he believes his former partner would have loved her artistry and would have appreciated the interpolation.
Besides the credit that George Michael will receive for ‘Father Figure’, the only other feature confirmed for ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ so far sees Swift team up with Sabrina Carpenter on the title track. ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ was co-produced by Max Martin and Shellback, alongside Swift herself.
Meanwhile, the planned cinematic release party for ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ happening later this week recently grossed $15million (£11million) in pre-sales in just 24 hours. The film is expected to gross somewhere between $30million and $50million (£22.2million to £37million) across its three-day run (Friday October 3 to Sunday October 5).
Swift will also make a return to The Graham Norton Show on her album release day later this week. Elsewhere, approximately 500 Target branches in the US are due to open at midnight that day to sell ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’.
Explaining what the album will entail shortly after its announcement, Taylor shared: “It just comes from like the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life.” Swift recorded the album in Sweden, in between concerts on the massive tour.
The star has insisted that there are “no other songs coming” beyond the standard edition tracklist. More recently, she talked about the “luxurious” album artwork and said fans would see “more images than we ever planned”.

Most recently, fans are convinced that the musician left some huge Easter egg clues about the album while performing in Cardiff last year. One of the Easter eggs that fans think they have spotted was that Swift’s show at Cardiff was the 103rd show of the tour. Swift later revealed with fiancé Travis Kelce on his brother’s ‘New Heights’ podcast that the album would be released on October 3 – or 10/3 in US date order.
Significantly, Swift also appeared in Cardiff wearing orange and green in a top and skirt outfit combination that had not been worn previously on the tour. Both colours later turned out to be central to her new album artwork.
