It’s been confirmed that Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante will feature on ‘Ties That Bind’, the official anthem for new fighting game 2KXO.
2KXO is a free-to-play two-player fighting game from Riot Games, the makers of League Of Legends and Valorant. “Good teamwork can make the difference between victory and defeat. Master a variety of unique tag and assist mechanics to outplay the enemy duo and secure your spot at the top,” reads the official description.
2KXO will also feature a roster of champions from League Of Legends and Arcane, “each with fresh movesets inspired by the [game]”.
A closed beta for the game went live last month ahead of 2KXO entering Early Access on Tuesday October 7 for PC users. A full release for PlayStation and Xbox is also planned.
It’s now been announced that Spiritbox vocalist Courtney LaPlante has teamed up with Riot Games for the official 2KXO anthem ‘Ties That Bind’. The track will hit streaming next week (Monday October 6). According to a press release the track “delivers a powerful and anthemic soundscape that crescendos into an epic, soaring finale for players.”
Fellow moshers Polyphia released 2KXO’s official theme ‘Let’s Go’ last month.
“As someone deeply rooted in the metal and guitar world for over 23 years (and now game audio and dev), it’s so inspiring to hear each member of Polyphia’s unique musical voice with the storytelling and energy that fighting games demand,” said composer Jesse Zuretti, who worked alongside Polyphia on the track.
“Composing this theme was about more than just writing music, it was about creating a sound that resonates with 2XKO players, that captures the soul of the FGC’s incredible history of music and games, and feels authentically tied to the characters and world of Runeterra and beyond.”
Spiritbox released their second album ‘Tsunami Sea’ earlier this year while LaPlante recently teamed up with Poppy and Evanescence’s Amy Lee for ‘End Of You’. “Instead of just dreaming about it, Poppy really went for it and made it happen. Instead of half-assing it, Amy went full out and crushed it,” LaPlante told NME last month. “All I can do is rise to the occasion and show them the respect they deserve, that they have also shown to me.”
Spiritbox’s ‘Perfect Soul’ is included on the very heavy soundtrack for NHL 26 and the band’s music inspired the score for Doom: The Dark Ages.
In other news, gaming fans are furious about Microsoft’s “crazy” price increase for Xbox Game Pass. To get access to Day One releases, subscribers will now need to pay £29.99 a month.
