Mark Carney, a former central bank governor, has been elected as Canada’s next prime minister. Sworn in last month following Justin Trudeau’s resignation, Carney called a snap election, with Canadians heading to the polls on Monday. Despite never holding political office before, he secured a landslide victory in the Liberal Party leadership contest in March and has now earned the public’s mandate.
