In an interview with FRANCE 24, Robert Malley, who has served on Middle Eastern affairs under Presidents Clinton, Obama, and Biden, stated that “it is clear that President Trump did something that his predecessor was not able to do, which is he played raw politics.” Malley went on to explain: “He told the parties, this is what the outcome is going to be.” While he criticized Trump’s methods as “bizarre” and “sometimes quite repellent,” Malley also acknowledged the Gaza ceasefire as “a real achievement”, highlighting the “ceasefire, release of prisoners and hostages, influx of humanitarian assistance”.
