Madagascar’s president Andry Rajoelina said on Monday that he had to move to a safe place to protect his life, following weeks of youth protests calling for his resignation. Speaking on FRANCE 24, Dr Luke Freeman of University College London says that Rajoelina, despite first coming to power by championing reform, ‘hasn’t been able to address the root problems’ of Madagascar, instead focusing on ‘vanity projects’.
