The German domestic intelligence service BfV on Friday classified the Alternative for Germany (AfD) as a right-wing extremist group, citing numerous instances of the party trying to “undermine the free, democratic” order. The designation grants the BfV greater monitoring powers just months after the far-right party came second in national elections.
