An appeals court in Colombia has overturned the conviction of former president Alvaro Uribe. The ex-leader had been sentenced to 12 years of house arrest in August 2025 for witness tampering and procedural fraud related to accusations of links to far-right paramilitaries during his time in office from 2002 to 2010. It marked the first time in Colombia’s history that a former president was convicted of a crime and sentenced.
