At least 27 inmates were found dead from asphyxiation Sunday at Ecuador’s Machala prison in El Oro province, hours after an armed riot killed four others and injured dozens, authorities said. Prison officials said the victims “committed asphyxiation among themselves, causing immediate death by suspension”.
