Opposition boycott gifts Venezuelan ruling party absolute majority

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s ruling party swept regional and parliamentary elections, the country’s electoral authority said on Monday, cementing an absolute majority in parliament until 2031 following a boycott by the opposition and crackdowns on dissent in the run-up to the vote.
