Pentagon chief pushes Asian allies to raise defence spending in face of China ‘threat’

Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth called on US allies in the Asia-Pacific to boost their defence spending in the face of what he described as a possibly “imminent” threat posed by China. Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue security summit in Singapore, Hegseth said that the US was “here to stay” in the region.
