Nick Lachey was heartbroken when Newlyweds ended!
In case you don’t remember, the Love Is Blind host had a reality TV show with his ex Jessica Simpson back in the early 2000s. The MTV show ran from 2003 to 2005 and followed the lives of the newly married couple. And it sounds like Nick is missing it a little bit! But perhaps not for the reasons you might think…

While chatting on SoFi‘s Richer Lives podcast, the 51-year-old said of his time on the show:
“I actually came to really love the crew. I remember crying the day we shut down because you develop relationships with them. They really became family.”
Awww…
He said initially he was told to just ignore the crew — but he didn’t follow that rule for long:
“I remember at first they were like, ‘Don’t talk to the crew. They’re a fly on the wall!’ And I was like, ‘Guys, if this is ever going to work, that’s just not how I’m wired. You’re not going to be in my house and watch my every move, and we’re not going to talk to each other. We got to get past that right now.’”
They soon became his family, and that’s why he was so sad! His tears had nothing to do with Jessica, who he split from just months after the last episode aired (they finalized the divorce in 2006). It might’ve been the beginning of the end, but it’s not what had the singer in his feels. Oof.
Addressing his ex elsewhere in the episode, the 98 Degrees member, who recently owned up to still feeling the “scars” from their divorce, said that the success of the show was “totally unexpected”:
“My ex-wife had an album coming out, I had an album coming out. We had no idea it was going to take on this other life of being this reality fly-on-the-wall type of show.”
It became so much more than just promo for their music! He also credited the series for exposing him to a new audience, in which “even guys around me [were like], ‘He’s kind of cool. I’d have a beer with that guy.’” He added:
“No one ever got to see that side of me before. It allowed me to become very comfortable being myself.”
It had a huge impact on his life — even if his marriage was short-lived!
