A truck bomb killed at least 76 people and injured at least 50 others in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu. The blast happened at a busy security checkpoint during the morning rush hour, sending a plume of thick black smoke across the city. There was no immediate claim of responsibility, although a group with ties to al-Qaeda often carries out such attacks. A government spokesman called the blast one of the deadliest in Mogadishu in recent memory.
