Alan Hamel has found love again… and it’s with someone his late wife Suzanne Somers would definitely approve of.
As you know, the Three’s Company star died at 76 in October 2023, just one day before her birthday. After a long, devastating battle with cancer for over 50 years the actress sadly succumbed to the disease, leaving behind her son Bruce Somers Jr. and her husband of 46 years, Alan. So sad…
But now, as the Canadian TV host told People, he’s in a relationship again with someone you probably wouldn’t expect — one of Suzanne’s old co-stars Joanna Cassidy!
She worked alongside the Step by Step actress for a 1985 miniseries called Hollywood Wives, and now she’s “reconnected” with Alan 40 years later.
While speaking to the outlet, Alan said this is 100% what Suzanne would’ve wanted:
“When it was clear that Suzanne was not going to recover in the final days of her life on this planet, before she crossed over, she said to me, ‘I don’t want you to mope around after I’m gone’. I actually never heard the expression ‘mope around’ before. I said, ‘So you mean I shouldn’t sit at home and feel sorry for myself?’ She said, ‘I want you to live your life. You have a great life. You have a great family. You have great friends. I want you to live your life’.”

The Anniversary Game host went on to say his late wife thought very highly of Joanna:
“Suzanne really liked her a lot, and Suzanne also was a great professional. So the two of them got along great … She’d be very happy that I’m happy. Absolutely, yeah. She wanted that. Our relationship was based on each of us making the other one happy.”
As far as how his relationship with Joanna is going, the 88-year-old said they go WAY back — and it was his son Bruce that helped them reconnect:
“She and Suzanne spent quite a bit of time together during the production of that miniseries, and I was there a lot, almost every day, and so we reconnected and that was it, period … [Bruce] mentioned to her [on a film set] that he thought she and his dad, that’s me, would get along. She said, ‘Who’s your dad?’ Stephen did not know that I had a relationship with her going back the ‘70s. And when he mentioned his dad is Alan Hamel, she said, ‘I know Alan. Of course, I’d love to see Alan.’ So that was the beginning, and we’ve dated a few times since then, and she’s great.
All in all, everything is going great with him and the 79-year-old former model:
“We have a lot in common, and we’ve had a good time dating, and that’s kind of where we are … I knew her professionally, mostly professionally. I was very aware of her career, and her career blew me away, but I didn’t know her personally at all, and so it’s been a series of discovery on both our parts, and we really enjoy being together.”
So sweet… But at their ages, don’t expect a ring or a big ceremony anytime soon. Alan said they’re just going with the flow:
“I don’t know where the relationship is going. I just know that at this very moment, it’s wonderful, and the reality is that as the foundational material for a relationship. It should go on for a long time being wonderful.”
The interviewer even asked if his relationship with Joanna is helping him grieve Suzanne, to which he said:
“I guess in a sense it does, because I’m enjoying it so much.”
