The US on Wednesday said it is sanctioning Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territories, after failing to have her removed from the international body over her investigation of Israel’s human rights violations in Gaza. Albanese, a human rights lawyer, has repeatedly called Israel’s campaign a “genocide” and supported the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
