Dolly Parton is making a big change after the loss of her husband, Carl Dean.
While chatting with Khloé Kardashian on Wednesday’s episode of her Khloé In Wonder Land podcast, the legendary country crooner said she’s putting her recording career on the back burner. Dolly explained:
“I can’t do it right now ‘cause I got so many other things that I can’t afford the luxury of, you know, of getting emotional right now.”
Aww…
She can perform the hits… but making new music would be too emotional? The 79-year-old went on to explain her songwriting career is “stalled” because the death of her husband is still weighing heavily on her:
“I’ll write something else, though, if it comes. I’m just putting that all on hold.”

As you know, Carl passed away in March after he and Dolly had been married for 59 YEARS(!!!). We can’t imagine the turmoil it’s been to try an adjust to a life without him after nearly six decades. And in songwriting, that’s where she has to open her heart the most!
Dolly has been known to write some of the most emotional songs we’ve ever heard. In fact, she already wrote a tear-jerking ballad in honor of her late husband… She would definitely tap into that grief from losing Carl when writing something new, so it’s totally understandable if she’s not ready to do that again just yet.
Our heart continues to be with Dolly as she navigates this new chapter in her life. We’re wishing her nothing but the best.
