Sci-fi series Alien: Earth will return for a second season, as creator Noah Hawley has signed a new deal with network FX, which shows the series in the US.

A spin-off of the Alien movies, the series is show on Disney+ in the UK and followed a group of corporate-owned synthetic humans who investigate a crashed spaceship which contains the deadly Xenomorph species. The show was a hit for parent company Disney, with the first episode getting 9.2million streaming views in its first six days (per Variety).

Despite this, there has been no news of a follow up until now, with Deadline reporting that creator Hawley has signed an overall deal which will see him creating shows for FX and Disney Entertainment Television. Part of that agreement will be a second season of Alien: Earth, which will begin filming next year in London.

FX Chairman John Landgraf told the outlet: “Noah never stops surprising us with truly original stories— and his unique ability to bring them to vibrant life as a director and producer as well as writer makes him extraordinary. We can’t wait to get to work on the next season of Alien: Earth, as well as some equally exciting future projects in advanced development.”

NME’s Jordan Bassett gave the first season of Alien: Earth a five star review, writing: “Hawley has honoured the films’ unmistakable tone while somehow conjuring a universe that is entirely his own. The result is probably the Xenomorphs’ best outing since Aliens, proving this franchise is often licked but never beaten.”

Recently, The Mars Volta‘s Cedric Bixler-Zavala has criticised the use of “Unc rock” music at the end of Alien: Earth episodes. The show used songs by Metallica, Queens Of The Stone Age, and Black Sabbath among other to end each episode, something the artist dismissed as “monster energy drink bullshit”.
