Well, this is bad news for fans of cinema AND of justice.
On Tuesday Deadline was the first to reveal a new film in the works called Dinner with Audrey — a fictionalized account of the magical first meeting between Audrey Hepburn and designer Count Hubert de Givenchy, who would go on to design her iconic costumes for films and award shows for years.
Sounds pretty great, right? Especially for fans of classic film and fashion! The problem? The casting. While the talented Thomasin McKenzie is set to play Audrey, the role of Givenchy is, for some reason, going to be played by Ansel Elgort.
Sigh…

It’s a big comeback for the actor, who hasn’t been in a movie since 2021’s box office disappointment West Side Story. For those who don’t know, the Steven Spielberg film was actually filmed in the summer of 2019 and delayed by COVID. So really Ansel hasn’t been cast in anything for over six years! And for good reason…
As an X (Twitter) user going by the handle @stokerrcohen wrote following the news of his latest casting:

What is she talking about? Unfortunately a great many of the responses to the viral tweet proved just how much the public had missed (or memory-holed) the story of Elgort’s allegations.
Elgort was credibly accused of sexually assaulting an underage fan. A woman named Gabby came forward with her whole story on social media. She was just 17 years old, and he was already a rising star at 20. Crucially, a grown man. She explained how she messaged him as a fan and he gave her his private Snapchat — interactions she had screen grabs to prove.
Gabby said he pushed her to meet and then to have sex, which she did despite not wanting to. And when she was “sobbing in pain” he just told her “we need to break you in.” She wrote:
“I WAS SO YOUNG AND HE KNEW THAT. He as well said stuff like ‘you’re going to be such a beautiful young lady when you’re older’. I was f**king 17. He not only did that but asked me for nudes. I was only 17. As well as asked to have a threesome with me and one of my ‘dance friends’ they were as well underage and I didn’t tell anyone because he said it could ‘ruin his career’”
Gabby has deleted her account in the years since. But this was viewed widely as a credible allegation as it came with photos of the two together. And later Ansel even confirmed it all — well, his side of it.
The Divergent star confirmed that in 2014 he slept with Gabby — but called it “a brief, legal and entirely consensual relationship.” Really highlighting the legality of it, ignoring the fact it was with a 17-year-old fan — making it a gross imbalance of power at best! He apologized, but not for preying on her — he just said he was “ashamed” of being a bad breaker-upper:
“Unfortunately, I did not handle the breakup well. I stopped responding to her, which is an immature and cruel thing to do to someone. I know this belated apology does not absolve me of my unacceptable behavior when I disappeared. As I look back at my attitude, I am disgusted and deeply ashamed of the way I acted. I am truly sorry. I know I must continue to reflect, learn, and work to grow in empathy.”
Yeah, sketchy as hell, right?
And after Gabby came forward, Vulture found several more accounts of young women who said Elgort had preyed on them at an extremely young age. One said he asked to message her when she was just 15. Another said she actually went on a couple dates with him when she was only 16 years old, and he was already in his 20s. A third woman claimed the Baby Driver star had sent her a photo of his penis when she was just 14! A lot of allegations are still floating around online…

We don’t know where the truth lies in all this, but it’s clear we’re talking about multiple allegations here. And yet, somehow he still gets to be a movie star when there are SO MANY OTHER ACTORS OUT THERE??
For those saying “what happened to innocent until proven guilty,” no one is saying to throw him in prison without due process. We’re just talking about how it’s a privilege to get cast in these projects, and if there’s good reason to think you’re a creep, you should lose that privilege!
Hell, just as a business decision studios shouldn’t hire guys with allegations hanging around their necks! Plenty of people skip movies simply because the stars are unlikable. We mean, how are movie studios not doing a better job of vetting here? This is public reporting!
Who even is the studio behind this one? Dinner with Audrey is a production of Hyde Park Entertainment, Mad Chance Productions, and… oh. Wayfarer Studios. Huh. You’d think the company still dealing with the fallout of Blake Lively‘s sexual harassment allegations against Justin Baldoni would do everything they could to steer clear of this kind of controversy right now… But we guess it’s just too important to cast the super hot, in-demand Ansel Elgort.
