Billy Bob Thornton is stirring the Hollywood pot once again!
This time it’s all about his famously intense, endlessly dissected, and apparently still warm connection with none other than Angelina Jolie. Yes, 22 years after their split sent tabloids into a frenzy, the man who once made headlines for wearing a vial of Angie’s blood around his neck is giving the world a surprising and downright nostalgic update.

In a new Rolling Stone interview published on Monday, Thornton made it clear that the spark between them didn’t vanish when their marriage did. Instead, the affection just… shifted. Not many celebrity exes can say that! Especially when their relationship was once the hottest ticket in gossip town. But Billy Bob is!
First, he told the mag:
“Angelina and I had a great time together. That was one of the greatest times of my life.”
And then, the 70-year-old star added:
“She and I are still very, very close friends.”
Well then!
For anyone who remembers the media circus surrounding their romance, that could be shocking. But Thornton insists the end of their marriage was entirely civilized. Apparently, their lifestyles didn’t sync, but their respect did. And while the outside world ran wild with theories, the breakup itself seems to have been the least sensational part of their saga.

To that end, the Landman star reflected on the surreal shift that occurred when they got together, calling the media obsession over them “pretty weird.” He explained:
“When we met, I was the more famous one. And then when we got together, for some reason, the people and the media are very interested in celebrity couples, that seems to be a very popular thing.”
Well, yeah… that’s why we’re here! LOLz!
And of course, no conversation about these two can avoid the infamous blood-locket headlines that defined early-2000s pop culture. To the mag, Thornton set the record straight about that once again, laughing off the tall tales that turned them into literal creatures of the night:
“We each had a little locket, literally with a drop of blood in them. That’s a romantic little idea, and that’s all that was. But by the time it’s over, we’re vampires. We live in a dungeon, we drink each other’s blood, and this kind of stuff.”
Well, when you put it like that…
In the end, it’s been two decades-plus since they parted ways, but it sounds like things are as cool as can be.
