Brandy has said “dehydration” is the reason behind her abrupt exit from a recent concert with Monica.
The duo are currently on their co-headline ‘The Boy Is Mine Tour’, which kicked off in Cincinnati last week.
On Saturday’s (October 18) show in Chicago, videos emerged of Brandy leaving the stage mid-song during ‘Baby’, and not returning to the stage. Monica then played the rest of the show alone.
In a statement released yesterday (October 19), Brandy has clarified that her exit was due to health issues.
“I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago,” she wrote. “After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint, everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance.
“I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling OK. With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production, I really appreciate everyone’s best efforts

Brandy went on to thank Monica for “stepping up with such grace and professionalism,” and added that after leaving the stage, she saw a doctor who said she would be able to continue the tour.
“I look forward to returning to the stage – stronger and more grateful than ever – alongside my girl, Monica, tonight in Indianapolis,” Brandy wrote.
The pair reunited last year after Ariana Grande released a reimagined version of their hit ‘The Boy Is Mine’ for her latest album ‘Eternal Sunshine’, and invited them both to perform on a remix.
The collaboration was nominated for the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance award at the Grammys 2025. In 1999, Brandy and Monica won the Best R&B Vocal Performance By A Duo Or Group prize with the original single.
Monica later reflected on the collaboration, saying: “It was nothing short of a blessing for Brandy and I not only to reconnect, but to reconnect and do something as special as this innovative version of ‘The Boy Is Mine’.
“She and I had not seen each other for many years, so it gave us the opportunity to talk not just about the song, but life as a whole,” she added.
