Californian voters opted by 2 to 1 on November 4 to approve measures to redraw the electoral map. The move, called Proposition 50, will facilitate Democrats in picking up five more Congressional seats in next year’s midterm elections. It’s a form of gerrymandering usually denounced by Democrats when Republicans do it but California’s governor Gavin Newsom said it was necessary to counter a similar manipulation in Texas that would deliver five more seats in Congress to the Republicans.
