Violent incidents broke out across Cameroon following the announcement of Paul Biya’s victory with 55.66% of the vote, defeating Issa Tchiroma Bakary, who received 35.19%. In Garoua, Tchiroma’s stronghold, at least two people were killed by gunfire near the candidate’s home. These deaths add to the four fatalities in Douala, Cameroon’s economic capital, from clashes between pro-Tchiroma protesters and security forces. In a message on social media, President Biya thanked his supporters and expressed sorrow over the post-election violence. FRANCE 24’s Indira Ayuk has the details from Yaounde.
