A North Carolina man is behind bars in South Carolina after cops found him in a house that was allegedly filled with the dismembered remains of somebody — just days after he and his girlfriend were reported missing together!
According to jail records in Florence County, South Carolina, 56-year-old Charles Edward Antwine (pictured above, mugshot) has been charged with desecration of human remains after he was discovered with all kinds of cut-up body parts in a home in that area. However, more charges against him are possible, per the Florence County Sheriff’s Department.

This all started last week, according to a press release published by the department on Monday. Antwine and a woman named Christy Thomas Ward were reported missing from their home just across the state line in Brunswick County, North Carolina. Relatives didn’t know where they’d gone to, and they started to get worried.
Well, on Saturday, a patrol deputy in South Carolina was driving near a boat landing at a local cemetery when he spotted what seemed to be a “mostly submerged vehicle” in the water, per the press release. He looked closer, and sure enough — it was a car that had been driven into the lake. However, the strange thing was that nobody was found inside.
When cops ran the plate, it came back to Antwine — and specifically, one of his listed addresses in nearby Lake City, South Carolina. Sheriff’s deputies promptly went right over to have a talk with him, and that’s when they “detected an unusual smell coming from the residence and there was no response to knocks on the doors.”
Oh, no…
The sheriff immediately obtained a search warrant, and when deputies entered the home, they found Antwine sitting on the couch. Oh, and they also discovered “human remains in what are described as plastic containers which were taped shut,” the sheriff’s office stated. WTF!!!
Speaking to local news outlet WMBF, Sheriff TJ Joye said:
“We found some containers with body parts in them where they appeared to be cut up. It’s a very horrific crime. I’ve had my investigators out there all day, yesterday, and it’s one of the worst we’ve ever seen. It’s something like out of some horror movie. Very horrific.”
No kidding…
As for Antwine, he was taken into custody and hit with the aforementioned desecration of human remains charge. Cops have NOT charged him with murder as their investigation into exactly what happened to that other person is still ongoing.
The remains themselves were taken down to Charleston, and the Medical University of South Carolina, for an autopsy. Cops think they are those of Ward, but again, they aren’t sure yet. For now, all they can offer is their belief that Antwine is a person of interest in Ward’s (presumed) death. Ugh.

BTW, Antwine had a bond hearing earlier this week on the desecration charge. During that hearing, a man local media outlets have identified as Ward’s son Zachary said:
“This is just wrong. My mother is not a bad person. No matter what she’s done. She’s overcome so much. And she’s been through so much. She just lost her father. And he was the only one left that she had other than us.”
As for Antwine’s actual bond amount, that will apparently be decided at a later date. For now, local outlets report he’s still being held at the Florence County Detention Center.
What a horrific story…
