We were so surprised to hear about Denise Richards getting a divorce. And we’ve heard she was, too! Despite hanging out with hubby Aaron Phypers last week, we were told, suddenly on Monday he was ready to file papers! And after she swore she’d never get divorced again! So WTF happened??
According to a new source spilling to DailyMail.com on Thursday, they may have been having a normal week… but a normal week for them is pretty bad! The insider said:
“All they were doing was fighting. It was very toxic.”
While they’ve kept it pretty under wraps, says the source, they just fought all the time, and far worse than we saw on reality TV by the sound of it. And they had a huge blowout screaming match last weekend that was just the last straw:
“They have been having trouble for some time, but they had a row over the weekend where they basically were like, ‘f**k you,’ and he marched off to file for divorce.”
Damn, just like that? He slept on it and went and filed first thing Monday morning? Sounds like he was ready to be DONE! And if she’s being honest with herself, Denise was ready, too. The insider says:
“Denise is both devastated and relieved at the same time. She is mentally exhausted from the fighting, and she is glad that’s over.”
That being said, Denise has been through divorce before. So she knows the hard part is still coming — especially because she’s the breadwinner in the relationship! The source lamented:
“But she is 100 percent not looking forward to the divorce, because he’s made it clear that he won’t go quietly. And she now has to gear up for a battle, which isn’t what she wants.”
The issue is, they had an understanding in their marriage, per the source — “She earns and he spends.” He revealed just how much the couple spend in his filing, too. And it’s CRAZY! $15k on just eating out every single month crazy!

Apparently he thought he could spend whatever — because this was just the beginning of the ride on the reality TV train! After she killed it on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Bravo offered her a show focused on her own fam: Denise Richards & Her Wild Things. And Aaron was happy to get in on the action. Another source says:
“Aaron was hoping that their reality show was going to catapult him to reality stardom.”
He apparently didn’t entertain the possibility the show would be a “limited-run series”, despite that being part of the pitch from the start. Besides, says this insider, even if the show had been a huge hit that got picked up, he was never going to be the next Scott Disick or whatever he thought:
“No one cares about him on the show. Without her, he has no reality career.”
Ouch. Harsh but fair, right? He’s hot, but she’s the draw. And if there was a breakout, it was Sami. We mean… right??
He’s asking for a LOT in spousal support to cover the lifestyle to which he’s become accustomed. He noted in his docs that Denise makes $250k per month, and he’s making nothing. So why doesn’t he have any other income? What about that wellness center he was running?
Well, according to DM‘s source, the Q360 Club or Quantum 360 or whatever it was called when it shut down — in October of last year — didn’t make money at all but instead “cost Aaron a fortune”:
“Ultimately, it was too expensive to operate and get the machines he needed and to pay rent.”
Ouch. Failed business ventures are always tough. But adding insult to injury? The source added:
“Denise was unwilling to invest in it.”
Yeah… She did sign the lease on the place, though. And for seven years. So it sounds like she gave it a shot. But maybe she was just being a smart businesswoman? If a gym in LA can’t make money, we mean… come on, man!
Still, we bet that hurt. So we’re not surprised after hearing about that dispute that he might be wanting to get the most money he can from Denise.
