A recent poll reveals that around 400,000 South African domestic workers have lost their jobs over the past five years. The primary factors behind this include sluggish economic growth, the flexibility of domestic work, and employers emigrating. Our Cape Town correspondent, Tom Canetti, followed the story of a domestic worker who lost her job in April. Many workers are not registered by their employers and remain unaware of the rights they are entitled to.
