With increasingly frequent and intense summer heatwaves, Europe needs to overhaul its urban infrastructure in order to handle rising temperatures, said Dr. Chloe Brimicombe, climate scientist at the Royal Meteorological society. Brimicombe said Europe needs to invest in “urban planning” and “increasing natural ventilation” to help its citizens brave the hot summer months on the continent, adding that such investments also require policy change.
