Mark Carney, former central banker, has been elected as Canada’s next prime minister, succeeding Justin Trudeau who announced his resignation in January. Carney, 59, won 85.9% of the vote as leader of the governing Liberal Party amid US trade tensions and an upcoming federal election. Trudeau will continue as prime minister until Carney is sworn in.
