Former Nip/Tuck And Charmed Star Julian McMahon Dead At 56 After Private Cancer Battle

Longtime television star Julian McMahon has died.

The actor was best known for playing prominent roles on both Nip/Tuck and Charmed, as well as starring as Dr. Doom in the early 2000s Fantastic Four movies. But according to his wife Kelly McMahon in a brief statement released on Friday, he passed away this week after a long, trying, and very private battle with cancer. He was just 56 years old.

In her release about the Australian-born Hollywood star’s sad passing, Kelly said that he “died peacefully this week after a valiant effort” to overcome the disease. She further shared:

“Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible.”

And she concluded by asking for privacy for the family as they continue to grieve his loss:

“We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”

Wow.

Like we said, McMahon is perhaps best known for his role on Nip/Tuck, which saw him play Dr. Christian Troy from 2003 to 2010, and which earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Television Drama Series at one point.

The creator of that series, longtime television kingmaker Ryan Murphy, also confirmed McMahon’s death after Kelly revealed the sad news. Murphy released a statement on social media saying:

“Warner Bros. Television mourns the loss of our friend Julian McMahon. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues, and fans.”

So, so sad.

BTW, that Nip/Tuck role came not long after McMahon’s career really took off in 2000 when he starred on Charmed alongside the likes of Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano.

Speaking of Milano, she also posted on social media about McMahon’s tragic passing. Over on Instagram, she called the actor a “dear friend” and said she was “heartbroken” by the loss. Along with a carousel of photos, she wrote in part:

“He made me feel safe as an actor. Seen as a woman. He challenged me, teased me, supported me. We were so different, and yet somehow we always understood each other.”

Just heartbreaking.

We send our condolences out to Julian’s wife and children, as well as the rest of his family, friends, and loved ones.
