France: Louvre director admits security failures and insufficient camera coverage after heist

Louvre director Laurence des Cars acknowledged on Wednesday, October 22, that the museum’s exterior walls lacked sufficient security camera coverage, just days after a daring daytime theft shocked Paris. During a Senate hearing, she faced questions over how thieves stole about €88 million in jewels in only seven minutes. Des Cars noted that a damaged diamond- and emerald-studded crown dropped during the heist can be restored. The incident has reignited concerns over security at French museums. Yinka Oyetade reports.
