French government walks on tightrope as MPs set to debate Zucman tax

French lawmakers are set to discuss the introduction of wealth taxes in the 2026 budget. Far-right leader Marine Le Pen ruled out approving the so-called “Zucman tax”, which means it is very unlikely to be adopted. But socialists have said that if some form of the tax is not included in the budget, they would vote down the government, opening the door towards a dissolution of the National Assembly.
