French PM Bayrou set to lose no-confidence vote as talks end without breakthrough

Last-ditch talks between French Prime Minister François Bayrou and party leaders from across the political spectrum have now finished without any breakthrough, all but sealing Bayrou’s fate of losing a confidence vote next week. This morning the Socialist Party extinguished any remaining hope for the current government, and reiterated its proposal to form a new left-wing administration post Bayrou.
