Voters in Gabon will vote on Saturday for a presidential election widely expected to make junta chief Brice Oligui Nguema the country’s first elected leader since the 2023 coup of the Bongo dynasty, who were accused of looting Gabon’s wealth during their 55 year rule. Oligui, the general who led the 2023 putsch, has been leading in opinion polls.
