It took a long time, but Geri Halliwell’s husband, Christian Horner, has finally been fired after his sexting scandal!
After 20 years as team principal and CEO of Red Bull Racing, the company let Christian go on Wednesday. They did not give a specific reason for the firing — though we can all make a good guess! Instead, in a statement, they thanked him for his years of work, Red Bull managing director Oliver Mintzlaff said:
“We would like to thank Christian Horner for his exceptional work over the last 20 years. With his tireless commitment, experience, expertise and innovative thinking, he has been instrumental in establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula 1. Thank you for everything, Christian, and you will forever remain an important part of our team history.”
In his place, Laurent Mekies has been announced as the new CEO.

Red Bull Racing even posted a gushing tribute to him — as if he wasn’t called out for some really icky stuff!
According to The US Sun, Christian was given a heads-up about the news on Tuesday night and shared an emotional speech with the team in the UK office on Wednesday.
Of course, this comes after the F1 boss was accused of inappropriate and “coercive behavior” toward a female employee last year. Yeah, it’s been a year since this controversy began… It took a while to get to this point! But karma will always find ya!
As Perezcious readers will recall, after the initial allegations were made, Christian was actually cleared of any wrongdoing following an investigation. But then his disgusting, sexual texts leaked! However, rather than fire him right then and there, Red Bull suspended the alleged victim, per reports. Crazy! It was unclear what they uncovered that led to that surprising decision.
Clearly, some people at the company did not want Christian gone — at first, anyway. Things have been tense behind the scenes for the racing team these days — and not just because of this NSFW ordeal and the fact that others were campaigning for his firing. The team has also been dealing with struggles on the track and uncertainty about star driver Max Verstappen‘s future, Red Bull sources told ESPN. So, it seems they’re looking for a fresh start with this change…
Christian and Geri have not commented on the firing at this time. The Spice Girls alum has remained by her man’s side throughout this scandal, so we doubt that will change now.
