We’ve heard of some crazy endings to police investigations before, but this might take the cake!
If you’re a true crime junkie or live in California, you likely remember the “Golden State Killer.” The serial killer, real name Joseph James DeAngelo, was caught with the help of Patton Oswalt‘s late wife Michelle McNamara, who wrote a book all about her investigation, which was finished and published after her death.
But now a new book is exposing a MAJOR and utterly shocking detail that led to the killer’s arrest for another series of crimes!

In an excerpt of Sacramento DA Thien Ho‘s new book, out last week, called The People vs. the Golden State Killer and viewed by Page Six on Monday, the attorney claims it was James’ TINY PENIS that led to his arrest! OMG, WHAT?!
Apparently, DeAngelo had been arrested on suspicion of several crimes across California, but cops believed he might’ve also been responsible for crimes committed by a perp known as the “East Area Rapist,” but there was no DNA connecting him to the cases. They needed proof — and there was a big clue.
Both victims in the crimes he was already accused of AND the still-unsolved crimes described the offender as having a small penis. Ho detailed:
“I needed circumstantial evidence corroborating his identity as the EAR. I needed to confirm the extreme smallness of his penis.”
And so he set out to do that! Cops and a photographer went to take pics of the suspect’s genitalia while he was in custody. The lawyer alleged the photographer “kneeled down to do so, but he grew frustrated after several failed attempts.” Ho claimed:
“[One of the cops] threw up his hands in the air in exasperation and barked … ‘There’s nothing there.’”
Doubling down, cops told Ho afterward:
“It’s smaller than the circumference of a dime and its length is equal to the tip of your pinky.”
OMFG!!!
This was all the DA needed:
“We had the circumstantial evidence we needed in order to corroborate the testimonies of DeAngelo’s victims.”
In 2020, DeAngelo pleaded guilty to 26 crimes, including the East Area ones! He’s been sentenced to multiple consecutive life sentences with no possibility of parole. All because he has an incredibly tiny peen!
