Hunter Schafer has been announced as one of the actors for Hideo Kojima’s new horror video game collab with Jordan Peele.
OD was first announced at The Game Awards 2023 via a short teaser trailer and now Hideo Kojima has confirmed more details about the upcoming project.
Sharing a new trailer during the special ‘Kojima Productions: Beyond the Strand’ livestream, Kojima confirmed that OD will be a horror anthology that will be created by the “avengers” of the directing world. Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves‘ Sophia Lillis and Madonna collaborator Udo Kier will all star in the game.
Kojima will be behind the first installment of the game and shared a new teaser trailer for OD: Knock. “There is a different kind of fear Jordan [Peele] will do. Mine is the ‘knock’, is the fear,” Kojima explained. “I really am afraid of big knock sounds.”
The trailer explains via redacted text that the game takes place ten years after a mysterious horror, with a “cursed” something returning “into the forbidden”
As well as Peele, it’s rumoured that The Haunting Of Hill House’s Mike Flanagan, Midsommar’s Ari Aster, Alan Wake’s Sam Lake and Guillermo Del Toro could also be involved in OD. Speaking about the project, Kojima said: “It’s really scary, and you’ll probably do in your pants.”
The game is being created in collaboration with Xbox. “Development is well underway. Kojima is innovating in gameplay, story and player engagement. We’re collaborating closely, and we are very excited for what’s next,” said Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer during the livestream.
“When I first saw [the teaser] I saw something new, something slightly sinister, but also something that was extremely Kojima-san. OD is bold, it’s unique, and it’s unmistakably from this studio, which is just incredible. We’re deeply supporting the production, it’s our technical work on Unreal that we’re doing with the team, both with the kind of flashy what you’re seeing on the screen, but also a lot of behind the scenes work. We have one goal in mind, which is to bring Kojima-san’s vision to life for all players, everywhere, and we can’t wait for players to experience it when it is ready.”
OD doesn’t currently have a release date but Kojima has also revealed he’s working on “action espionage” title Physint which won’t launch until 2030.
Earlier this year, it was rumoured Hunter Schafer would be playing Princess Zelda in the live-action adaptation of The Legend Of Zelda but it was later revealed that the role had gone to Bo Bragason.
In other news, the long-awaited game Marvel’s Wolverine has finally been given a 2026 release window via a bloody new trailer.
