After battering Jamaica on October 28, leaving hundreds of thousands there without electricity, Hurricane Melissa touched down in Cuba. According to President Miguel Díaz-Canel, more than 700,000 people have been evacuated to safer areas as the hurricane approached, and a ‘state of alert’ was declared in six eastern provinces.
