Well, that was anti-climactic.
After months and months of throwing everything at the wall, Bryan Kohberger and his defense team are throwing in one last thing: the towel. The quadruple murder suspect was taking a plea deal!
NewsNation‘s Brian Entin broke the news. According to his sources, the prosecution offered to take the death penalty off the table. In return, rather than subject the state, the victims’ families, and everyone else to a messy public trial… Kohberger will plead guilty to the brutal stabbing murders of Maddie Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin.

Entin has proven very reliable as he’s been boots-on-the-ground for this and other major crime stories in the past couple years. And his sources tell him the offer will still end with Kohberger serving life in prison.
Wow. The trial was just weeks away, with jury selection to begin on August 4. So this pretty much came down to the wire.
This shocking turn comes after the news that the defense’s main strategy — trying to point the finger at four alternate suspects — was dead in the water. Last week Judge Steven Hippler delivered his response to their “evidence” and called it “entirely irrelevant” and only likely to lead to “wild speculation.” They were barred from using the defense and from even hinting at the four individuals in court. It was apparently the final straw.
It may not have been Bryan or his lawyers who finally caved. We heard previously it was his mother who insisted he plead not guilty. Maybe she just didn’t believe it was possible her little boy could commit such atrocities, we don’t know. Maybe this finally convinced her the case was unwinnable? Maybe it finally convinced her there was no alternative explanation for the crime?
A plea deal will require Bryan admit to what he did. So she’ll definitely know now. And so will we. If there was any doubt out there, cast it out now. And get ready for the confession of the decade — instead of the trial.
What do YOU think of Kohberger taking a plea deal??
