There has been an upsurge in jihadist activity in Africa’s Sahel region since the beginning of the year, with the last few months seeing increasingly violent attacks in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso. The Islamic State group in particular has been expanding its activity in the region, explains France 24’s Wassim Nasr.
