It: Welcome To Derry

It: Welcome To Derry is set to release its next episode early in order to coincide with Halloween.

The new show, which acts as a prequel to the films, is based on the Stephen King horror and debuted its first episode over the weekend (Sunday October 26).

While the series will be following a regular Sunday schedule, it has been confirmed that this week’s second episode will premiere two days earlier than planned on Friday (October 31) at 12am PT/3am ET on HBO Max to make it in time for Halloween. It will also air on Sunday (November 2) as usual at 9pm.

Welcome To Derry takes place before the events of It in 1962 as a young couple move to Derry and a young boy disappears, with terrifying events starting to occur in the town.

Bill Skarsgård returns as Pennywise the Clown from the film series, while new stars include Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, James Remar, Stephen Rider and Matilda Lawler.

The series comes from the film series’ director Andy Muschietti alongside Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, with the latter and Brad Caleb Kane acting as showrunners.

In NME‘s four-star review of the series, we said: “It: Welcome To Derry can best be described as precision-tooled prestige horror. So much so that when you see Pennywise’s notorious red balloon for the first time, you’ll get a shiver down your spine.”

Meanwhile, last year Skarsgård reflected on taking on the role of iconic villain Pennywise in the film series, admitting he found it “mean” that the studio shared first-look photos of his character before the film’s release.

“They did a thing that I felt was kind of mean,” he told Esquire. “I was so incredibly nervous to start this job, and then the internet is having so many hateful opinions on the weird, strange look of the thing.”

He added: “You can only make this performance to please yourself. It unlocked something in me. And it gave me the confidence that I can take on any challenge. At least, that’s how I feel when I accept these things.”
