Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez are reportedly ALREADY married! And have a major prenup in place!
As anticipation ramps up for the couple’s star-studded nuptials in Venice on Friday, we’re hearing they’re actually technically already Mr. and Mrs. Bezos… And have been for a while! You see, Venice city officials informed The Times of London this week that Jeff and Lauren did not file an official request to wed in the Italian city, which is required by law to be legally recognized. One said unequivocally:
“I can totally rule out that they will have a civil ceremony in Venice under Italian law.”
OK, so then… what the heck is happening this weekend? Oh, that’s just the party. They must have gotten legally hitched in the US prior to heading over to Italy, as an attorney explained to Page Six on Thursday:
“Often a marriage in a foreign country is not valid in the USA, or creates other issues, so yes it is likely they are already married.”
Ooo!
An insider speaking to the DailyMail.com on Thursday took it a step further, claiming that they’ve “been married for at least a month, more than a month.” OMG! They spilled:
“The marriage is fully legal and took place in America under American law. When they were planning the wedding, they were clear about the fact that they were already secretly married. There is no application for a wedding license from the couple because it was not required. Whatever happens at the wedding on Friday, it will not be a wedding. Under Italian law, it will not be a wedding celebration, any vows said or rings exchanged will have no legal meaning.”
Ain’t that something! So what about a prenup? Surely Jeff, the richest man in the world, would need one, right? Right!

Three US lawyers told Page Six they are aware a prenuptial agreement is in place. And DM‘s source says Jeff personally confirmed it. So yes, his massive Amazon fortune… which is estimated to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $244 BILLION, with a B — will be safe.
Considering his divorce from MacKenzie Scott, his wife from right before Amazon was founded, cost him 25% of his stock — valued at the time at around $38 billion. She instantly became the 22nd richest person in the world. So yeah, he’s not going to make the mistake of not getting something ironclad on paper. (BTW, MacKenzie has already donated half that — about $19 billion — to over 2000 charity organizations since the split.) No word yet on what Lauren would actually get if they split, but it won’t be anywhere close to that, we’d reckon!
Innerestingly, one of Page Six‘s legal sources told them Bezos could have gotten married anywhere without affecting the prenup:
“They can get married anywhere as their prenup would generally be drafted to include its enforceability everywhere.”
However, the attorney added, if they do get a divorce, that will all have to happen wherever they live:
“Divorce can only happen in the state of the primary residence. So if they live in Florida, no matter where they marry or what the prenup says, they would have to divorce in Florida. Likewise, if they left Florida and moved to New York as a primary residence they would have to divorce in NY. A prenup cannot confer jurisdiction on a state to grant a divorce without residency in that state.”
Hmm! Good to know! (Jeff and MacKenzie’s divorce jurisdiction was in Kings County in Washington — a community property state.)
But, you know, we’re sure none of this prenup or divorce talk even matters because they’re going to stay in love forever.
