Lewis Capaldi shocked fans by performing emotional new single ‘Something In The Heavens’ on a supermarket roof – check out footage below.

On Friday morning (September 26), the singer-songwriter rocked up on the roof of West Bridgford’s Aldi, much to the delight of those doing their weekly shop at the Nottinghamshire supermarket.
The surprise performance saw his latest track given its first live outing outside of his ongoing tour, with clips shared to social media showing Aldi staffers swaying along as they sang while fans flooded the car park.
Speaking to the crowd, he said: “This is Capaldi on the roof of an Aldi. Sorry to get in the way of anyone’s shopping. I apologise. “But I was back there earlier, some excellent produce, brioche buns, carrots – the lot.”
He also joked about similarities to The Beatles’ final public performance in 1969 on the rooftop of their Apple Corps headquarters in London, saying: “Not that we’re as…never mind.”
Cardboard signs dotted around the storefront read “Cap-Aldi”, with several other UK supermarkets getting in on the fun in comments underneath the videos. “You got the photo op. We got the headliner,” wrote the official Co-Op account, referencing Capaldi’s stop there on September 20.
The ongoing run of UK live shows marks his first tour dates in two years, with the release of ‘Something In The Heavens’ arriving on the heels of Capaldi making his comeback in June.
That month, he released his comeback single ‘Survive’ and went on to play a surprise set at the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury. ‘Survive’ became his sixth UK Number One single, and the fastest-selling single of 2025 so far – surpassing both Sabrina Carpenter and Lady Gaga.
The latest spate of live shows also comes after the singer was forced to cut his set at Glastonbury 2023 short after struggling with tics caused by Tourette’s. He later announced he was planning to take some time off to focus on his health.
Since coming back from his hiatus, he has teamed up with BetterHelp to provide 734,000 hours of free online therapy. Announcing the collaboration, he shared: “Therapy is the reason why I am able to be a musician again”. He would also play some warm up shows in May in celebration of Mental Health Awareness Week.
More new music from Capaldi is suspected to be on the way soon, as he has been using his latest run of tour dates to preview some unreleased material with fans. If it materialises into a full album, it will be his first since 2023’s ‘Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent’.
