Lizzo is opening up about her weight loss journey! Including all the controversial bits!
The 37-year-old singer put in some hard work over the past year to lose weight. Back in April, Lizzo revealed she reduced her body mass index by 10.5, and she dropped 16 percent of her body fat. Wow! And she looks good as hell, too! Take a look (below):
Fans initially figured Lizzo achieved her weight loss goals with Ozempic, but she later hit back at the allegations! She said it was about remaining in a calorie deficit (ie, dieting) and weight training to achieve her goals. But… she wasn’t being fully honest back then! It turns out she DID try the diabetes/weight loss drug!

During an appearance on the Just Trish podcast on Thursday, Lizzo admitted she did try Ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs:
“I’ve tried everything. It’s just the science, for me, calories in vs. calories out. Ozempic works because you eat less food. It makes you feel full. So, if you can just do that on your own and get mind-over-matter, it’s the same.”
However, Lizzo didn’t stick with Ozempic. She soon realized it wasn’t for her, so she went down a different route. She tried the mind-over-matter method and completely changed her diet. On the podcast, Lizzo explained she was vegetarian for about 10 years and became vegan in 2020. But the second she gave it up three years later, things started to change for her:
“What did it for me was— actually it was not being vegan. Because when I was vegan, I was consuming a lot of fake meats. I was eating a lot of bread. I was eating a lot of rice, and I had to eat a lot of it to stay full. But really I was consuming like 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day. So for me, when I actually started eating whole foods and eating like beef and chicken and fish, I was actually full and not expanding my stomach by putting a lot of like fake things in there that wasn’t actually filling me up.”
Lizzo went on to say she began eating meat again while in Japan:
“I heard the Japanese diet is the healthiest diet in the world, so I was there and I was like, ‘I’m going to try the food here,’ and my body was so happy. My body was like, ‘More, more please!’”
While changing her diet helped her lose weight, she stressed that what worked for may not work for everyone:
“I don’t like to tell people too much about releasing weight, but like what I did because I don’t want people to do what I did and it doesn’t work for them. Everybody’s body’s different. So, I don’t know if like GLP-1 might be the only thing that works for you because I don’t know what your bloodwork is like. I don’t know how your body breaks down food, sugar. I don’t know. But I know for me, I just had to start eating meat again.”
Different things work for different people! And apparently, switching back to meat is what helped Lizzo! Watch the interview (below):
