Mom Pleads Guilty In Brutal Death Of 3-Year-Old — But Says Boyfriend Did It & Asked Her To ‘Take The Fall’

[Warning: Potentially Triggering Content]

A crime so horrible, even those pleading guilty can’t stand to admit to it fully…

Back in February 2018, a 3-year-old boy named Matthew Maison was found dead in his Port Huron Township, Michigan home. Babysitters found the child’s beaten body in his bed, leading to an investigation into the one person who should have been keeping him safe: his mother.

It took seven years, but eventually Amanda Maison was officially charged in her son’s death in April 2025. She and her boyfriend Maurice Houle allegedly admitted to police that they had “physically abused” the child throughout their relationship, per ClickOnDetroit‘s coverage. That was about two years of the child’s three-and-a-half years on this earth. They put him in what Maurice called “military time-outs” — in which the small child was forced to kneel with his face in the wall and his hands behind his head. But that wasn’t enough. Amanda admitted to investigators that she would bash the child’s head into the wall — so violently, per prosecuting attorney Joshua Sparling, that it would “remove the backing of the drywall itself.” Torture. We’re talking about torture here.

Eventually little Matthew died from this abuse. His cause of death was determined to be “blunt traumatic injuries with features of asphyxiation.” Sparling argued in court that this wasn’t an accident, though — he believes the couple wanted to get rid of the child, Amanda’s son from a previous relationship, to “make room for a child that the two of them could have together.” Horrifying.

Now, seven months after both mother and boyfriend were hit with first degree murder charges, the case has finally taken a big step forward.

Amanda has now pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of second degree murder. However, she has stopped short of admitting to being responsible for the abuse that killed him. She admitted she “willfully and wantonly allowed an environment to exist, where Matthew would be systemically abused, and that those abuses eventually resulted in Matthew’s death,” per the Times Herald. But she says she didn’t abuse the child on February 19, 2018 — nor did she witness that abuse. She seems to be trying to distance herself from the actual killing.

Instead she now claims her boyfriend asked her to “take the fall” for the crime so that he didn’t have to go to prison.

Helping after the fact? She is admitting to, per a press release from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, “actively contriving a plan to conceal the manner of Matthew’s death from law enforcement.” They came up with a lie to explain his previous injuries to authorities. Not only that, she hid his abuse from CPS the entire time, from 2016 until his death in 2018 — which required never taking him to the doctor because they would see the signs of abuse. Just awful.

Maison now has agreed to testify against Houle in his trial early next year. But will he point the finger at her the way she’s doing with him now? Do YOU think this mom will get the proper prison sentence for what she’s done? Is that even something that exists??
